Thurston-Wolfe
Among the oldest wineries in the
Yakima Valley (nearly 20 years), Thurston-Wolfe carries a heritage to be proud
of. Dr. Wade Wolfe, owner and winemaker, has also been winemaker, advisor,
winery manager and more for a number of the Valley's premier wineries.
We have spoken to more than a few winemakers who respect Wade and the work he
has done to bring Yakima Valley and Washington State wines to the vaulted
status they enjoy. Wade and Becky are soft-spoken, gentle sorts, whose
knowledge is evident when you visit their tasting room, or when you open any
bottle with their label. They needn't boast -- the wines speak for themselves!
Their Wines
Thurston-Wolfe's achieved goal is to produce limited
quantities of very good wines, using an
assortment of grapes from the Valley's best vineyards.
Of note is their penchant for making exceptional wines from varieties that are
not commonly used in Washington State.
Any discussion of
Thurston-Wolfe wines is incomplete without highlighting Wade's popular JTW Port
and Sweet Rebecca dessert wines. Look to them also for very good Cabs, Zins and
Syrahs; and also for Petit Sirah, Lemberger, Primitivo, Tempranillo, and unique
blends of these and other varieties.
